‘Tis the season

We’re right in the middle of the month of December and just completed the shortest day of the year.  Not prime time for getting out for our daily dose of Vitamin D + endorphins.  But all of the indulgences, darkness + cold weather makes me think about running all the more.  And, planning + goals.

Starting the race schedule for 2016 is a good first step to planning for the new year ::

Sunday, April 24, 2016 :: Lake George Half Marathon + 5k

Sunday, May 15, 2016 :: Shires of Vermont Marathon + Half Marathon

Late June :: 40th Annual Adirondack Distance Run

Sunday, July 10, 2016 :: Saratoga Springs Half Marathon + 5k

July 23 :: Komen VT Race for the Cure

Mid August :: Vermont 100 on 100

Some time in September :: Maple Leaf Half Marathon + 5k

Early/Mid October :: Mohawk Hudson River Marathon

The Maple Leaf Half Marathon (and the Kotler 5K) is an internationally famous event now in its 37th year. Back in the 1980s, both Men’s and Women’s half marathon world records were set in our event. The Maple Leaf provides an opportunity for participants to enjoy early Vermont fall foliage in one of New England’s most beautiful settings. We are currently recognized as one of Vermont’s Top Ten Fall Events! Over the past four decades, the Maple Leaf has attracted thousands of visitors to southern Vermont, many of whom elect to never leave. Come join in the festivities and the fun this coming September 12th at 8 am in beautiful Manchester, Vermont!

The sun is shining on Vermont today!

We begin with today. A Thursday. The sun is shining across the morning lake, and we’re not running today.  However, we’re running in the Vermont/ New Hampshire Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday morning in Manchester, Vermont on the heels of a half marathon this past Sunday in Saratoga, New York…

There was a lingering sense of frustration from The Gold Trout Running Club at the start of the half marathon on Sunday.  Inadequate signage left dozens (or 100) still looking for the start at the “normal start line” at the Saratoga State Park before the race.  The taunting at the late start line did not help the mood. After some proper feedback to the 3C LLC race directors, we feel like they’ll be more prepared next year.  Lisa finished her first half marathon like a champion and we ate crepes at Ravenous in Downtown Saratoga to celebrate her achievement!  It’s becoming the regular post-race spot in Saratoga – get the Crepe Marcel!

We are thrilled to have a growing team for the race/walk fundraiser on Saturday.  A returning teammate Andrew McKeever from the Manchester Journal, high school friends, lifelong friends, new friends, and family. The weather report indicates a 40% chance of rain/scattered thunderstorms, high of 80 low of 66, but we’re going to stick with our optimistic dry, breezy forecast instead.
